A Farm, A Forest, and Over 70 Years of Coffee....
Fazenda EspĂrito Santo de Galia is located in the SĂŁo Paulo region of Brazil, within one of the most historically significant coffee-growing areas in the country.
Coffee has been cultivated here for more than seven decadesânot through expansion, but through careful stewardship of the land.
The farm borders a preserved Atlantic Forest ecological reserve, creating a rare environment where agriculture and native forest exist side by side.

A Different Approach
70+ Years of Cultivation
Coffee has been grown at Fazenda EspĂrito Santo since the 1950sâbut what makes that history meaningful is how the land has been treated over time.
For more than 70 years, the farm has cultivated coffee without expanding into new land, preserving the surrounding Atlantic Forest rather than clearing it.
That long-term consistency has allowed the farm to evolve thoughtfullyâadapting to changing conditions, recovering from major climate events like frost and drought, and continuously improving both yield and quality.
Today, part of the original cultivation is still maintained as a living referenceâa way to understand how coffee was grown decades ago, while the rest of the farm reflects modern practices and improved plant varieties.
This is not a short-term operation. It is a system shaped over generations.
A Living Ecosystem
The Coffee
Black Lion Tamarin Coffee is shaped by the environment it comes from. An intact, protected landscape where cultivation exists in balance with the surrounding forest.
This is not industrial agriculture. It is coffee grown within a living systemâwhere soil, water, and biodiversity are preserved, not depleted.
- Grown within a protected Atlantic Forest ecosystem
- Cultivated without chemical intervention or artificial inputs
- Nourished by clean water, fresh air, and native soil
- Produced by people committed to long-term environmental stewardship
The result is a coffee defined not only by origin, but by the conditions that sustain itâyielding clarity, balance, and depth in every cup.
This project begins with a lifelong connection to Brazil.
Kathy Moca
At nineteen, Kathy met Carlos, who was from Brazil and would become the love of her life. Their life together took her there, where she quickly fell in love with the country itself, its culture, its people, and its energy.
Although they later returned to the United States to raise their family, that connection to Brazil never faded. It continued to shape her path, including the founding of Beija Flor Jeans with her daughter Emilie, an award-winning brand inspired by Brazilian design and craftsmanship.
Now, in a new chapter, that connection has come full circle.
Through close relationships in SĂŁo Paulo, Kathy was introduced to a coffee grown within a protected natural preserve, cultivated with care and deep respect for the surrounding environment. After sharing it with family and friends, the response was immediate.
What began as something personal became something worth sharing.
Today, Kathy works directly with the farmers to bring this coffee to the United States for the first time, preserving its origin, its integrity, and the story behind it.
