Why This Monkey Matters to This Coffee
Black Lion Tamarin Coffee is named for the black lion tamarin, an endangered primate native to Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. The coffee comes from Fazenda Espírito Santo, a farm in São Paulo where coffee has been cultivated for more than 70 years alongside preserved native forest.
The farm borders protected Atlantic Forest habitat and is part of a living landscape where agriculture and conservation exist side by side. This surrounding ecosystem supports native wildlife and helps create the broader environmental context that inspired the Black Lion Tamarin Coffee project.
The farm’s approach emphasizes responsible land stewardship, soil health, water independence, biodiversity, renewable energy, and reduced reliance on chemical inputs.
